Large flowers grow down the canes that hang over the pot, the length of which can easily become 4'. At the end of each season, whether the cane has flowered or just lost its leaves, when new cane grow at the base, cut the old cane 2" from its base. This allows the plant to put its energy into the new canes. Healthy large canes produce large, palm-size flowers.
